It's attractive and low-maintenance. Even with only minimal pruning, the tree maintains its rounded shape of dense, dark green leaves. In the fall, Hackberry leaves turn yellow or yellow-green, accompanied by small, orange-red to deep-purple fruits.
The Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) Tree is a deciduous fruiting tree. The fruit of the hackberry is in-demand with winter birds, especially the cedar waxwing, mockingbird and robin. The tree also attracts many butterfly species including American snout, hackberry, mourning cloak, and tawny emperor. This tree grows at a medium to rapid rate, with height increases of anywhere from 20" to more than 24" per year.

The hackberry is a generalist. It performs well in full sun or partial shade conditions.
Mature Height: 30-50 ft.
Mature Width: 20-30 ft.
Zones: 3-9
